Kill Him With a Vote & Not With a Gun
While I was reading the Evening Capital, I was shocked when I came across the following headline "Dwyer says motorist pointed gun at him". Although I am no fan of Donald Dwyer or his politics, I don't feel waving a gun at him is the right thing to do & if anything makes a stronger case for him.
For those unfamilar with local politics, Donald Dwyer is a Republican Candidate representing the city of Glen Burnie. He is most known for being strongly against gay rights in the state of MD. For example, the past couple years he has orgainized protests in front of the state house in Annapolis protesting gay marriage & has been trying his best to get the issue of same sex marriage on the ballots for the November elections. Although he was not successful at getting it on the ballot this year, he's very passionate about denying gays rights. Although he trys to sugarcoat his hatred & uses the usual jargen of "wanting to protect the sanctity of marriage", it's very clear how he feels about gays & he obviously is not making any friends with the gay community.
In the article it is mentioned that this was the 2nd time a motorist has flashed a gun at him while he was campaigning on a Glen Burnie overpass. In addition to that, it is mentioned that this was his 5th death threat in four years. Sadly, when one has a political platform based on hatred & predjudice it generates such rash responses from others. Although Mr. Dwyer's views make me angry, it is still a free country & he is allowed to express his views. Just as much as I have the freedom to post this blog about him & this incident. I do feel the motorist is right to not like him, but I think flashing a gun takes things a little bit too far.
If that motorist actually killed Mr. Dwyer, it would most likely make him a martyr for his anti gay cause & possibly rally more support for him & ultimately make gays look bad. Just by waving the gun & having that article written about him can do nothing but give voters sympathy for him & want to possibly vote for him again.
If you really want to hurt Mr. Dwyer, then you should really make it count. Instead of waving a gun or sending death threats, you need to register to vote & make your vote count by NOT voting for him. In addition to that, you need to rally your friends, family, anyone who has the same beliefs as you do & VOTE. Although I don't live in Glen Burnie & I can't really voete for or against him, I'm still going to vote this November (as he has some stooges representing my area) & convice any & all my friends in Glen Burnie not to vote for him. If enough people vote he & his stooges out of office, that will probably be a worse fate than death as he won't be in power to push any more of his anti-gay adgenda.
