Garter
Last night I had the pleasure of attending my good friend's wedding with my significant other. For the most part, I had a wonderful time & in a way I'll be a memorable part of the wedding as I was the lucky(?) man to catch the garter.
I've been to weddings before & have witnessed this tradition, but I never really knew what it meant. After a bit of searching online ( & failed attempts using "Wikipdeia.com"), I managed to find the answer at http://www.elegantweddings.ca. According to this stie:
"This ritual dates back to the 14th century; a time when women wore hose attached by a garter belt. Catching the garter (thrown by the groom) was a chance for the single men to share in the good fortune of the groom. Today, it is believed that the man who catches the garter will be the next to marry."
Now knowing that, I can see why all the other guys just kinda sat there & I was the only person who really dove for the garter LOL. I guess that means that I'll be the next to marry? I am currently in a relationship with a wonderful person & I'm not getting any younger so maybe this could be a relaity, but my only real hurdles would be the political aspect & then breaking the news to my family etc...but those are all subjects for a future blog. Right now I'm just going to relish in the fact that I was the infamous garter catcher : )
