A Guilty Pleasure that G.L.O.W.'s

Earlier today I came into Best Buy with the intent of just buying film for my camera (Yes, I still one of the few who use a 35mm camera), but I succumbed to a guilty pleasures & bought a G.L.O.W. DVD. For those of you who didn’t grow up in the 1980’s or weren’t a dork LOL. The acronym of G.L.O.W. stands for gorgeous ladies of wrestling & it was on television from 1986 to 1990. Back in those days that was my favorite television show & I remember I used to watch it religiously every Friday night @ 6pm & I just could never get enough of it.

The show was very much unlike anything I’ve ever seen. There has never been an all women’s wrestling promotion before & not only did these women wrestle (at least attempt to) the show was filled with all sorts of goofy comedy sketches & musical routines. All in all, it was a very campy show, but I LOVED it. Despite the fact many of my peers & my brother’s friends would tease me for watching it, it was my guilty pleasure.

When the show ended in 1990, I was saddened, but I moved on to other things & forgot about it. The show would become another relic of my childhood or at least until I saw it today at Best Buy. When I saw the DVD, my eyes lit up & it was as if I was 10 years old all over again. I totally forgot what I came in there for & quickly snatched up a copy of the DVD. Instantly 4 years worth of Friday nights came back to me, but then I started to think “how stupid” or “I can’t believe I used to like this stuff”, but my curiosity got the best of me, I succumbed to my guilty pleasure, & I bought myself a copy of “The very best of G.L.O.W Volume 1.”

When I came home, I couldn’t wait to tear into the DVD & watch it. Within that hour, I relived on of my favorite childhood moments & saw many of my favorite lady wrestlers. Although the women weren’t too skilled at the art of wrestling & the singing/acting left little to be desired, it was still nice to see it again & relive one of my fond memories as a child. I do wonder if I will succumb to the same guily plesure if I see volumes 2 or 3?
